Experience a job
You will be part of a workplace setting and will experience a job from the inside. How does the job match you and your thoughts about jobs and education? Use your experiences from your work placement week for your considerations about choice of education.
Generally, pupils must find their own work placement, but of course you are welcome to contact your UU counsellor for guidance.
It might be a good idea:
- Make a list of the jobs you wish to experience
- Visit companies and businesses close to where you live
- Call to arrange a visit
- Apply or ask around in your own network, for example your parents or people you know
One specific week every year
Your school has reserved one week a year where it is possible to attend a work placement. Ask your class teacher when you can attend the work placement.

What am I allowed to work with when I’m 13 years of age?
When you are 13 years old, you are allowed to conduct easy work during a work placement. The work must not pose danger to your safety or health. You are not allowed to work with or be near to machines or dangerous chemicals or fabrics. You are not allowed to do heavy lifting.
What am I allowed to work with when I’m 14 years of age?
When you are 14 years old, you can conduct work that are more advanced and comprehensive. The prerequisite is that the work is not dangerous or covered by the prohibitions that are being mentioned in the ministerial order about labour and young people.
How many hours and when am I allowed to work?
If the work placement substitutes teaching for an entire work, you may as a pupil in form 8 or 9 work less than 8 hours on a daily basis and 40 hours a week. You are not allowed to work between 20.00 and 6.00. The daily rest period has to be at least 14 hours consecutively. Within a week, you need 2 days off.
